NUANS Preliminary Search
CorporationCentre.ca offers Canadian business owners, start-ups and entrepreneurs a “Preliminary search” (or Pre-Search) of the NUANS database. NUANS* is an advanced search system that searches corporate and business registries across Canada, with over 8,000,000 records of corporation names, business names, and trademarks. It is the most comprehensive business name database in Canada. It includes the Federal corporations database, most provincial corporate and business name databases as well as the Canadian trademark databases.
In order for you to register or incorporate your business, a “NUANS Report” is required by the Federal and most provincial governments. This NUANS Report is used to determine the availability of a corporate/business name by searching the NUANS database and listing any similar or possibly confusing existing corporation names, business names, and trademarks.
Pre-searches save you time and money by eliminating proposed names with exact matches before you pay for a NUANS Report. Why spend money on multiple reports, conduct pre-searches to help determine name availability.**
How to Perform a NUANS Preliminary Search?
To perform NUANS name preliminary searches, simply purchase packages of 5, 10 or 25 pre-searches above. If you do not already have an account, you will need to create one. After you have paid for the pre-searches, you can perform them one at a time with real-time results viewed directly from your screen. Print each set of results as they are not saved. Pre-searches that are not used are saved in your account for future use.
NUANS Full-Service Preliminary Search
The full-service pre-search includes a review of your proposed name by one of our dedicated paralegals after searching the NUANS database. The paralegal will check the database for conflicts with other names and will provide a detailed email explanation of whether or not the name will be approved and a list of conflicting names. This service does not include a NUANS report.
Limitations of Pre-search
- Pre-search only conducts an “exact match” search of the name you are submitting.
- Pre-search is NOT intended to find names that are phonetically, visually or physically similar.
- Pre-search does not replace the full NUANS Report.
